Congressman Raul Ruiz, M.D., representing California's 25th district, has expressed concerns over recent economic and immigration policies. In a series of tweets, he addresses the potential impacts of tariff increases and mass deportation programs on American families and local communities.

On February 5, 2025, Congressman Ruiz tweeted about the economic implications of raising tariffs on key trading partners. He stated, "We need to work on lowering costs for American families not raise them! Almost all economists have warned that indiscriminately raising tariffs on our key economic neighbors will RAISE COSTS for middle class families already struggling with inflation."

In another tweet posted shortly after, Ruiz highlighted the financial burden these tariffs could impose. He mentioned that some estimates suggest American families might incur an additional $1,200 annually due to tariffs on Canada and Mexico. He referred to this as a "$1,200 Trump tax" and noted his actions in response: "That’s why I wrote a letter to President Trump urging him to stop these reckless policies that will raise…"

On February 6, 2025, Ruiz addressed immigration issues following discussions with various community leaders. He described the impact of President Trump's deportation program as alarming: "I recently met with local faith leaders, school officials, farm worker representatives, and immigration law experts. It was very upsetting to hear about the fear that Trump’s draconian, indiscriminate and cruel mass deportation program is having on our local communities."
