In a subsequent tweet on February 5, 2025, Dr. Ruiz addressed the issue of rising costs for American families due to proposed tariff increases. He stated: "We need to work on lowering costs for American families not raise them! Almost all economists have warned that indiscriminately raising tariffs on our key economic neighbors will RAISE COSTS for middle class families already struggling with inflation."

Further elaborating on the impact of these tariffs in another tweet posted moments later on the same day, Congressman Ruiz highlighted the financial burden these policies could impose: "In fact, some estimate that American families would pay an additional $1,200 a year with the current tariff plans on Canada and Mexico alone! It’s like a $1,200 Trump tax. That’s why I wrote a letter to President Trump urging him to stop these reckless policies that will raise…"
