The Orange County Business Council (OCBC) has named Assemblymember Laurie Davies as its 2024 Legislator of the Year. This recognition is attributed to her legislative leadership in representing Orange County’s business priorities in Sacramento. Davies achieved the highest score among her peers on the OCBC 2024 Legislative Scorecard.

The annual Legislative Scorecard by OCBC evaluates how well elected leaders from Orange County align with its policy priorities, which include economic development, workforce, housing, and infrastructure. The council identified 20 critical bills affecting the local business community and regional economy. Assemblymember Davies showed complete alignment with OCBC's stance on all 16 votes that were scoreable.

Jeff Ball, President & CEO of OCBC, expressed appreciation for the legislators' commitment to supporting businesses and fostering economic growth during this past legislative cycle. "Their leadership and dedication are essential to ensuring Orange County continues to thrive as a leading hub for innovation and opportunity," he said. He also praised Assemblywoman Laurie Davies for her advocacy efforts: “We are especially proud to recognize Assemblywoman Laurie Davies as OCBC’s 2024 Legislator of the Year."

OCBC uses its Legislative Scorecard to hold elected officials accountable for their representation of the business sector in one of the nation’s most populous counties. During this legislative cycle, OCBC opposed certain bills while advocating for sustainable policies. As a result, 35% of opposed bills were killed or vetoed by the Governor, whereas 20% of supported bills were signed into law, yielding a 55% success rate.

Amanda Walsh, Vice President of Government Affairs at OCBC, commented on the challenging year for businesses due to economic pressures and regulatory hurdles: “The need for strong, business-friendly legislation has never been more critical." She acknowledged Assemblymember Davies and her colleagues' efforts in protecting business interests during these times.
