Assemblywoman Laurie Davies Recognizes 2024 Woman of the Year Nominees in Orange County

San Juan Capistrano, CA – Assemblywoman Laurie Davies recently honored the 2024 Women of the Year "Making Herstory" nominees in the 74th Assembly District at a reception in San Juan Capistrano. The event showcased the exceptional contributions of women within the communities of Orange County.

Among the nominees were individuals like Maria Elena Banks, recognized for her involvement in local business and community initiatives, and Leanna Bradshaw, celebrated for her role in supporting local events such as the Swallows Day Parade and Taste of San Juan. Marla Berman-Balmuth was acknowledged for providing pregnancy resources and support, while Jacqueline DuPont was commended for her advocacy for the Alzheimer's community and seniors. Susan Goggins, Executive Director at the San Onofre Foundation, was recognized for her environmental leadership, and Barbara Force Johannes, President of the Dana Point Historical Society, was praised for her dedication to preserving Dana Point's history.

Other notable nominees included Cindi Juncal, Founder of The Noble Path Foundation, who was lauded for her commitment to youth service, and Mary Smith, a Businesswoman and Military Advocate, recognized for her service to the community and advocacy for military veterans. Suzanne Whitlaw, Co-Founder and President of Save Our Beaches SC, was honored for her environmental stewardship.

The event also saw the presentation of category awards, with Mary Smith receiving the Legacy of Leadership and Community Service Award, Cindi Juncal being honored with the Community Service to Youth Award, Jacqueline DuPont recognized with the Community Service to Seniors Award, Suzanne Whitlaw bestowed with the Excellence in Environmental Stewardship Award, and Mary Ramone celebrated with the Excellence in Business Award.

The Woman of the Year event, founded in 1987 by Assemblywoman Bev Hansen (R) and Assemblywoman Sally Tanner (D), aims to recognize and celebrate the accomplishments of women across California. This year's celebration, held at The Tea House on Los Rios in San Juan Capistrano, was sponsored by the California Women's Caucus and was not funded by taxpayers.
