California State Assembly District 02 recently issued the following announcement.
AARP is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization that empowers people to choose how they live as they age. The Rx Price Fighter is a new award honoring a select group of 28 officials from 14 states who have championed legislation designed to lower the cost of prescription drugs.
“I am so honored to be the first—and only state legislator—to receive this recognition,” said Wood. “AARP serves its members, and all aging Californians, extremely well in the California Legislature where they engage in hundreds of legislative and policy issues and debates.”
“Since being elected in 2014, I have attacked the ever-increasing costs of pharmaceutical drugs on several fronts,” said Wood. “This year, I authored AB 824 to prevent the use of anti-consumer “pay-for-delay” schemes where large, brand-name drug companies pay generic drug manufacturers to keep lower priced generics off the market, keeping consumer prices artificially high.”
“The cost of prescription drugs has been shown to contribute significantly to the overall cost of health care and places a huge barrier to providing health care to all Californians,” said Wood. “So thank you AARP, and your 3.3 million California members, for recognizing my legislation this year to lower the cost of prescription drugs—it won’t be my last.”
