Representative Mike Levin, currently serving in the U.S. Congress, representing California’s 49th district, shared his perspectives through tweets on various critical subjects. Levin, who has served since 2019 after succeeding Darrell Issa, addressed concerns about educational program cuts, prison policies, and veterans’ affairs in a series of statements made on April 16 and April 17, 2025.

On April 16, 2025, Rep. Mike Levin criticized the Trump Administration’s decision to cut essential programs at the Department of Education, specifically affecting “Title I schools.” He conveyed the message through a tweet that included a link to further comments by Luca, a parent from Capistrano Unified School District. As per his tweet, “The Trump Administration has totally gutted vital programs at the Department of Education, including funding for Title I schools.”

Later the same day, Levin expressed his strong stance against the transfer of Americans to Salvadoran prisons, specifically referencing torture practices. He firmly stated in his tweet, “No American should be sent to a Salvadoran torture prison. Ever. Full stop.”

On April 17, 2025, Rep. Levin communicated his commitment to veterans’ welfare, noting his meeting with Senator Alex Padilla and local veterans. The discussion centered around the ramifications of potential budgetary reductions for the Department of Veterans Affairs. In his tweet, he expressed, “I just sat down with @SenAlexPadilla and veterans from our community to hear how cuts to the VA would impact their care. I’ll always stand up to defend our veterans and make sure no veteran goes homeless, hungry, jobless, or without health care.”

Mike Levin was born in Inglewood, California, in 1978 and resides in San Juan Capistrano. He obtained his BA from Stanford University in 2001, followed by a JD from Duke University in 2005.
