Rep. Mike Levin, a U.S. Congressman representing California’s 49th district since 2019, has voiced concerns on social media regarding the potential impacts of a Republican-backed funding bill on clean energy and water infrastructure.
On July 23, 2025, Levin stated in a series of posts that “Clean energy is 21% of the United States’ energy generation. The Republicans’ proposed budget will defund clean energy programs. When you cut off the development of these energy sources, that raises the price of electricity.” He further warned about consequences for public utilities and environmental health.
In another post on the same day, Levin wrote, “62% of funding for drinking and wastewater infrastructure projects will be cut if the bill passes, making clean drinking water more expensive for hardworking and vulnerable Americans.”
He also commented on broader environmental implications: “The Republicans’ environment and natural resources funding legislation is going to raise the cost of your utility bill and pollute our air. Let’s break it down.”
Levin, who was born in Inglewood, California in 1978 and currently resides in San Juan Capistrano, has focused much of his legislative work on environmental issues. He holds degrees from Stanford University (BA) and Duke University (JD). Before taking office in 2019 by succeeding Darrell Issa, Levin established himself as an advocate for clean energy policy.
The current debate over federal budget priorities comes amid ongoing national discussions about infrastructure investment and climate change policy.
