Rep. Mike Levin, a U.S. Congressman representing California’s 49th district since 2019, posted warnings on July 24, 2025, regarding the potential impact of federal policy changes on consumer costs and health care premiums.
On the morning of July 24, Levin addressed the implications of new tariffs under former President Trump’s administration for American coffee drinkers. He wrote: “For the 220 million Americans that drink coffee – bad news, Trump’s tariffs will raise the price of a cup of coffee.” (July 24, 2025).
Later that day, Levin commented on proposed Republican budget legislation and its projected effects on health insurance costs in the coming year. He stated: “Day 2 of me reminding you that your health care premiums will go up in 2026 because of the Republican budget bill. Republicans want you to pay higher rates so they can ‘decrease waste.’ Not very fiscally responsible of them.” (July 24, 2025). Levin has served as a congressional representative since succeeding Darrell Issa in California’s coastal district in 2019. Born in Inglewood in 1978 and currently residing in San Juan Capistrano, Levin holds degrees from Stanford University and Duke University.
