Rep. Mike Levin, a current member of the U.S. Congress representing California’s 49th district, has been vocal on recent issues through his social media presence. Levin, who replaced Darrell Issa in 2019, brings attention to environmental, humanitarian, and community matters.
On April 20, 2025, Levin marked the 15-year anniversary of the BP Deepwater Horizon catastrophe with a firm stance against the Trump administration’s offshore drilling policies. In his tweet, he stated, “Today marks the 15-year anniversary of the BP Deepwater Horizon catastrophe. Despite clear instances of irreversible environmental harm, the Trump administration wants to take us backward and expand offshore drilling. I’ll fight back in every way possible.”
A day later, on April 21, 2025, Levin expressed his sorrow over the death of Pope Francis. He acknowledged Francis’s significant contributions to humanitarian causes and climate change efforts, tweeting, “I’m deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Pope Francis. As pope, he made tremendous humanitarian strides, including waging groundbreaking efforts to address climate change. May his legacy serve as a reminder of what compassionate and courageous leadership looks like.”
On April 22, 2025, Levin celebrated a new long-term lease agreement for San Onofre Beach and Park, ensuring continuous public access. He shared, “Excited to celebrate a new long-term lease that ensures San Onofre Beach and Park stays open to the public. This means generations of Orange and San Diego County residents can continue to access and enjoy this incredible stretch of coastline for years to come.”
Mike Levin, born in Inglewood, California, in 1978, has served in Congress since 2019, representing California’s 49th District. A Stanford University alumnus, Levin also holds a JD from Duke University and resides in San Juan Capistrano.
