Rep. Mike Levin, a member of the U.S. Congress representing California’s 49th district, has expressed his concerns regarding the potential deployment of Marines for domestic law enforcement purposes. Through a series of tweets, Levin articulated his stance on this matter.
On June 9, 2025, Rep. Levin addressed Secretary Hegseth in a tweet demanding answers about the latter’s alleged threat to use Marines for domestic policing. Levin stated, “As the Representative for Camp Pendleton, I wrote Secretary Hegseth demanding answers about his threat to use Marines for domestic law enforcement. They’re trained to defend our country, not police our communities.” He further emphasized that warfighters should not be deployed to American cities.
Later that day, at 20:30 UTC, Rep. Levin reiterated his position by highlighting the training and purpose of the Marines. He tweeted, “Our Marines are trained to be the most lethal fighting force in the world. Deploying them to a major American city under present circumstances undermines the apolitical nature of our Armed Forces.”
On June 10, 2025, Rep. Levin continued to voice his objections against Pete Hegseth’s decision concerning Marine deployment to Los Angeles. In his tweet posted at 01:53 UTC, he stated: “Pete Hegseth is sending our local Marines to Los Angeles. Deploying warfighters for civilian purposes in these circumstances is dangerous and without clear legal authority.”
Mike Levin has served in Congress since replacing Darrell Issa in 2019 and represents California’s 49th district. Born in Inglewood and currently residing in San Juan Capistrano, he holds degrees from Stanford University and Duke University.
