Rep. Mike Levin, who has represented California’s 49th district in the U.S. Congress since 2019, recently posted a series of statements on social media addressing legislative funding victories, U.S. foreign policy spending, and federal education policy.
On January 8, 2026, Levin highlighted new appropriations for his district and national nuclear waste management: “Big wins for California’s 49th District. The House just passed a funding package I helped advance that delivers more than $29 million for local projects across our communities AND an additional $55 million to address spent nuclear fuel across the country, including the waste” (January 8, 2026).
Later that evening, he addressed concerns about U.S. taxpayer dollars supporting foreign oil infrastructure: “American taxpayer dollars shouldn’t be paying to rebuild Venezuela’s oil infrastructure. It’s going to cost billions, and the only people who truly profit from it are the oil companies, not American families that are already paying too much at the pump. If oil companies want to” (January 8, 2026).
The following day, Levin criticized recent federal actions affecting children’s services: “First the Trump Administration guts the Department of Education and now it’s freezing child-care funding? What kind of world are we building for our children? We should be investing in our kids, setting them up for success, and building a stronger future for their generation” (January 9, 2026).
Levin has been an advocate for his Southern California district since succeeding Darrell Issa in Congress in 2019. Born in Inglewood in 1978 and currently residing in San Juan Capistrano, Levin holds degrees from Stanford University (BA) and Duke University (JD).
