Rep. Mike Levin, a U.S. Congressman representing California’s 49th district since 2019, addressed issues ranging from tax reform to nuclear waste storage and health care legislation in a series of posts on December 9, 2025.
Levin began by reiterating his support for changes to the capital gains tax: “I’ve been a longtime supporter of reforming the capital gains tax so we can help seniors to downsize and young people to afford a home. That’s why for years I’ve been fighting to pass the More Homes on the Market Act to increase the capital gains tax exclusion for the sale of a” (December 9, 2025).
He also commented on the ongoing challenge of storing spent nuclear fuel at San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station (SONGS), linking it to broader national concerns: “The spent nuclear fuel sitting at SONGS is part of a national problem. More than 80 sites in 36 states are storing nuclear waste indefinitely because the United States still has no permanent repository. Yucca Mountain was shelved over a decade ago due to lack of community and” (December 9, 2025).
Turning to developments in Congress, Levin criticized House Republican leadership over health care negotiations: “Congress has only this week and next in Washington, and now Deputy Speaker Mike Johnson and House Republicans are scrambling at the very last minute to piece something together on health care. They still don’t have an agreement to save the ACA tax credits that expire at the end” (December 9, 2025).
Levin was born in Inglewood, California in 1978 and resides in San Juan Capistrano. He graduated from Stanford University with a Bachelor’s degree in 2001 before earning his Juris Doctor from Duke University in 2005.
