Rep. Mike Levin, a U.S. Congressman representing California’s 49th district since 2019, posted a series of tweets in January 2026 addressing U.S. policy on Venezuela’s oil infrastructure, climate change, and clean energy funding.

On January 13, Levin wrote, “Rebuilding Venezuela’s oil infrastructure is not, and should never be, the responsibility of the American taxpayer. Reconstruction will take several years and could cost $100B or more, with any profits flowing straight to the oil companies, not to American families who are https://t.co/fP4HRio5cg”.

Later that day, he commented on recent U.S. withdrawal from international climate agreements: “ICYMI: Last week, Trump pulled the U.S. out of the UN climate framework embraced by every other country on Earth to tackle climate change. That doesn’t put America first. It isolates us, gives China the upper hand in the most important economic competition of this century, and” (January 13).

On January 14, Levin addressed a federal court ruling related to clean energy funding: “A federal judge just confirmed what was already obvious to the rest of us: Trump’s decision to cut $7.6 billion in clean energy funding wasn’t policy-driven. It was partisan. And it was illegal. Not to mention it runs directly against the interests of American families.”

Levin has represented California’s 49th District since succeeding Darrell Issa in 2019 and resides in San Juan Capistrano. Born in Inglewood in 1978 and currently aged 44, Levin holds degrees from Stanford University (BA) and Duke University (JD).
