Rep. Mike Levin, a U.S. Congressman representing California’s 49th district since 2019, has used his social media platform to comment on recent policy proposals and actions by former President Donald Trump.
On February 19, 2026, Levin addressed changes regarding U.S. involvement in Venezuela’s oil sector, stating: “Trump just cleared the way for U.S. companies to rehabilitate oil infrastructure in Venezuela. The catch? Independent analysts say oil companies don’t have an incentive to invest substantially in Venezuela unless American taxpayers subsidize it. And increased production there”.
The following day, on February 20, 2026, Levin criticized a proposed change affecting federal workers’ rights of appeal after termination: “Trump just proposed eliminating federal workers’ right to appeal their firing to an independent board. Instead, fired workers would have to appeal to the Office of Personnel Management, an agency whose director reports directly to Trump. Read that again. If you get fired,”.
Later that same day, Levin reiterated his opposition to Trump’s tariff policies: “I’ve opposed Trump’s tariff scheme from day one, and not just because it’s illegal, but because it’s an economic disaster. These tariffs are a tax on every American consumer, raising prices and hurting businesses. Congress, and only Congress, has the authority to impose taxes,”.
Levin was born in Inglewood, California in 1978 and currently resides in San Juan Capistrano. He graduated from Stanford University with a BA in 2001 and earned a JD from Duke University in 2005.
