Rep. Mike Levin, a U.S. Congressman representing California’s 49th district since 2019, posted a series of tweets on May 13 and 14, 2026, criticizing the Trump Administration’s handling of taxpayer funds and raising concerns about potential conflicts of interest involving former President Donald Trump and his family.
The following day, Levin addressed legal actions reportedly involving Donald Trump and the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). On May 14 he tweeted: “Let me get this straight. Trump sued his own IRS for $10 billion. His own Justice Department is now considering settling that case. And one of the terms on the table is that the IRS drops all audits of Trump, his family, and his businesses PERMANENTLY. He’s using the full”.
Later on May 14, Levin also claimed financial entanglements between Trump’s sons and a mining company operating overseas: “Trump’s sons have a financial stake in a mining company called Cove Capital that has secured $1.6 billion from U.S. taxpayers. That company is trying to mine tungsten — a critical mineral used for defense purposes — in Kazakhstan. Now they’re asking the Pentagon for $400 MILLION”.
Levin has represented California’s 49th District since replacing Darrell Issa in Congress in 2019 (source: https://www.congress.gov/member/mike-levin/L000593). Born in Inglewood in 1978, Levin resides in San Juan Capistrano and holds degrees from Stanford University (BA) and Duke University (JD).
These statements come amid ongoing debates over government spending priorities and transparency regarding public officials’ business interests.
