Rep. Mike Levin, a U.S. Congressman representing California’s 49th district since 2019, has recently posted several statements on social media addressing actions by the Trump Administration and issues concerning Congressional authority.
On September 3, 2025, Levin criticized the Trump Administration’s decision to end funding for the Pediatric Brain Tumor Consortium. In his post, he stated: “The Trump Admin is ending funding for the Pediatric Brain Tumor Consortium, shutting down clinical trials for kids with deadly brain cancer. Children will lose access to lifesaving treatments. Cruel. Shortsighted. Unconscionable.”
Later that day, Levin referenced a recent media appearance in which he discussed various national issues: “Just spoke with Don Lemon about everything from a potential government shutdown to the Epstein matter. WATCH: https://t.co/LNTjjVFhg4” (September 3, 2025).
On September 4, 2025, Levin addressed concerns regarding executive overreach and Congressional authority over federal spending: “Congress holds the power of the purse—not the president. The government’s own watchdog has said Trump’s budget director’s plan is illegal. Yet this Administration keeps trying to shred Article I. We must defend Congress’s role, not weaken it.”
Levin was born in Inglewood, California in 1978 and currently resides in San Juan Capistrano at age 44. He earned his undergraduate degree from Stanford University in 2001 and completed his law degree at Duke University in 2005.
As background, Article I of the U.S. Constitution grants Congress control over federal spending decisions—a principle that has been at issue during disputes between legislative and executive branches.
