Rep. Mike Levin, who represents California’s 49th district in the U.S. Congress, posted a series of statements on social media criticizing recent actions and rhetoric from former President Donald Trump, Senator JD Vance, and his Republican colleagues.
On January 11, 2026, Levin questioned claims about economic prosperity under the Trump administration, posting: “Remember that “A++++” Trump and Vance were giving their economy? 2025 was the worst non-recession year for American workers since 2003. So much for a golden age of prosperity.”
Later that day, he addressed comments made by JD Vance regarding political violence. Levin wrote: “JD Vance saying the Trump Administration “won’t tolerate political violence” is a flat-out lie. This is the same Administration that egged on and pardoned nearly 1,600 insurrectionists who stormed the U.S. Capitol on January 6th. The same Administration led by a President who”.
On January 12, Levin commented on legislative authority related to military action: “The War Powers Act isn’t “fake.” It’s the law. It exists for one reason: to stop any president from dragging this country into war without Congress or the consent of the American people. My Republican colleagues need to decide whether they’re going to uphold the Constitution”.
Levin has served in Congress since 2019 after succeeding Darrell Issa as representative for California’s 49th district. He was born in Inglewood, California in 1978 and currently resides in San Juan Capistrano. Levin holds degrees from Stanford University (BA) and Duke University (JD).
