Rep. Mike Levin, who has served in the U.S. Congress representing California’s 49th district since 2019, recently addressed several pressing issues through his social media posts. The congressman, known for his advocacy on environmental and healthcare matters, shared his concerns about recent events impacting both Texas and the nation at large.

On July 7, Rep. Levin expressed sympathy for those affected by severe flooding in Texas. He stated that he and his wife were “saddened by the severe flooding in Texas,” adding that their “hearts go out to all those who have been affected.” Levin emphasized the increasing frequency of extreme weather events and stressed the importance of prioritizing disaster relief across party lines. “As extreme weather events become more common, it’s more important than ever to ensure that disaster relief remains a priority for lawmakers on both sides of the”.

The following day, on July 8, Levin criticized a Republican budget bill regarding its impact on healthcare coverage in the United States. He argued that regardless of one’s health insurance type, “the Republican budget bill just made all health care coverage in the United States measurably worse.” He highlighted concerns over Medicaid cuts potentially leading to hospital closures and millions losing access to essential care. “Steep cuts to Medicaid will force hospitals and care centers to close, and millions will be unable to access lifesaving care.”

Later that day, Levin continued his critique of the Republican budget bill by challenging claims about reducing waste through Medicaid cuts. He pointed out that such reductions would affect approximately 17 million Americans’ coverage, including thousands in San Diego. Levin accused Republicans of prioritizing tax breaks for billionaires over essential healthcare services for citizens: “Don’t buy into the lie that the Republican budget bill will cut Medicaid to decrease ‘waste, fraud, and abuse.’ Approximately 17 million Americans, and thousands in San Diego, will lose coverage so that billionaires can get a tax break.”

Mike Levin was born in Inglewood, California in 1978 and resides in San Juan Capistrano. A graduate from Stanford University with a BA in 2001 and Duke University with a JD in 2005, he succeeded Darrell Issa as a congressional representative.
