Rep. Mike Levin, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing California’s 49th district, has expressed his views on recent legislative and executive actions through a series of tweets. Levin, who succeeded Darrell Issa in 2019, has been vocal about maintaining the balance of power between branches of government and critiquing proposed legislation.
On June 5, 2025, Rep. Levin tweeted that “The President cannot unilaterally withhold funding that has been appropriated by the Congress.” He emphasized his commitment to defending Congress’s role as a co-equal branch of government with control over financial appropriations.
In another tweet on June 6, 2025, he addressed a piece of legislation he referred to as the “Big Ugly Bill.” Levin stated that “Even Elon Musk agrees, the Big Ugly Bill is a disgusting abomination.” He elaborated on his concerns about the bill’s potential impact on utility bills during a speech on the House Floor.
Further criticizing the same bill later that day, Levin tweeted again agreeing with Elon Musk’s stance. He described it as “a travesty that will gut lifesaving programs while ballooning our national deficit.”
Mike Levin was born in Inglewood, California in 1978 and resides in San Juan Capistrano. He graduated from Stanford University in 2001 and earned a JD from Duke University in 2005.
