Rep. Mike Levin, a U.S. Congressman representing California’s 49th district since 2019, has used his social media platform to comment on issues ranging from prediction markets related to nuclear events to executive orders on chemical production and religious rhetoric within the military.
On March 7, 2026, Levin criticized the existence of betting markets focused on nuclear attacks. In his post, he stated: “This was the only right call. The fact that there were prediction markets on nuclear detonations — on whether cities would be destroyed and millions of people would die — is absolutely insane. That is betting on war and death. It should be ILLEGAL.”
The following day, March 8, Levin addressed concerns over an executive order regarding chemical production in the United States: “The MAHA movement is furious about this. And for good reason. Trump’s Executive Order declared production of a weed killer ingredient linked to 160,000+ cancer lawsuits as essential to national defense. There’s only ONE U.S. company that makes it, and that company”
Later on March 8, Levin raised alarms about religious messaging in the military context amid ongoing conflict with Iran: “Our brave service members swear an oath to the Constitution, not to a religion. Yet, our troops are being told that the war in Iran is ‘all part of God’s divine plan.’ That their commanders believe Trump ‘has been anointed by Jesus to light the signal fire in Iran to cause”
Levin was born in Inglewood, California in 1978 and currently resides in San Juan Capistrano at age 44. He holds a BA from Stanford University (2001) and a JD from Duke University (2005). He replaced Darrell Issa as representative for California’s 49th district in Congress.
