Rep. Mike Levin, who represents California’s 49th district in the U.S. Congress, used his Twitter account on May 12, 2026, to criticize recent Republican actions related to healthcare policy, election administration, and government ethics.
In a tweet posted at 12:38 p.m. UTC, Levin highlighted the impact of changes to Affordable Care Act tax credits on older Americans: “Think about someone you know who’s in their 60s, not yet on Medicare, just trying to make it to retirement. Let’s say they make $65K a year. By refusing to extend the ACA tax credits, Trump and Washington Republicans just handed them a $920 monthly rate hike. That’s $11,000”.
Later that day at 8:05 p.m. UTC, Levin addressed concerns over federal involvement in election administration: “The U.S. Constitution entrusts the administration of elections to the states, NOT the Postal Service. Trump is trying to change that, making USPS a gatekeeper for who gets to receive a mail-in ballot in the first place. That means a federal list, built by the party in power”.
At 8:57 p.m. UTC on May 12, Levin commented on ethical standards within government service: “It doesn’t take a genius to figure out you’re not supposed to use your government job to benefit yourself or your family financially. Some members of the Trump Administration seem to have trouble wrapping their heads around that concept. A Trump appointee who works on federal”.
Levin has served as a member of Congress since 2019 after replacing Darrell Issa and currently resides in San Juan Capistrano.
He was born in Inglewood, California in 1978 and is an alumnus of Stanford University (BA) and Duke University (JD).
