Rep. Mike Levin, U.S. Congressman representing California’s 49th district since 2019, has criticized recent Republican actions related to health care access and federal budgeting in a series of tweets posted on August 7, 2025.
In one post from August 7, Levin stated, “Talk about wanting to cut red tape and bureaucracy—Republicans made it harder for vulnerable San Diegans to access basic health care.” On the same day, he added, “This also forces the County to shell out between $20 and $60 million dollars to pay the up-to 700 additional staff needed to process this added paperwork.”
Later that afternoon, Levin addressed concerns over national fiscal policy: “The latest nonpartisan report says the Republican budget will add $4 TRILLION to our debt. For no purpose than more tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans. We need to reduce our deficit while still delivering for working families—and House Republicans are doing exactly the”.
Levin’s comments come amid ongoing debates over healthcare accessibility and government spending priorities. He has served as the representative for California’s 49th district since succeeding Darrell Issa in 2019. Born in Inglewood in 1978, Levin resides in San Juan Capistrano and holds degrees from Stanford University (BA) and Duke University (JD).
