Rep. Mike Levin, U.S. Congressman representing California’s 49th district since 2019, used his social media platform to criticize recent federal funding cuts and policy rollbacks that he argues threaten public services and environmental progress.
On July 22, 2025, Levin addressed concerns about reductions in federal support for local media, stating, “KPBS provides trusted news, kids programming, and emergency alerts for our region. Cutting $4 million in federal funding puts all of that at risk. These reckless Republican cuts threaten public safety, local journalism, and educational access.”
The following day, on July 23, 2025, Levin commented on proposed staffing reductions at the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), writing, “Mr. Secretary, you can take issue with my wording, but the facts remain. Cutting 30,000 workers from the VA will make it harder for veterans to get the timely, high-quality care they’ve earned. The system is already understaffed, with long wait times and growing backlogs. That’s”
Later that same day, Levin criticized moves by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to reverse longstanding regulations: “The EPA is trying to roll back 15 years of science-based policy that helped lower energy costs, reduce harmful pollution, and keep American companies globally competitive.
While China invests in cleaner, cheaper technology, we’re walking away from the race. That means higher”
Levin has represented California’s 49th District since replacing Darrell Issa in Congress in 2019. He was born in Inglewood in 1978 and currently resides in San Juan Capistrano. His academic background includes a BA from Stanford University (2001) and a JD from Duke University (2005).
