Rep. Mike Levin, a U.S. Congressman representing California’s 49th district since 2019, posted a series of tweets on November 6, 2025, criticizing Congressional inaction amid rising health care premiums and the ongoing government shutdown.
In his first post at 00:27 UTC, Levin wrote, “The health insurance open enrollment period began on November 1st. Californians across the state are receiving their annual notices, and thousands are seeing their premiums as much as DOUBLE. Congress hasn’t made any progress on a plan to lower health care costs.”
Shortly after, at 00:27 UTC, he added another tweet stating, “To sum it up: there’s a whole lot of nothing going on in the House. No negotiations, no votes, no people—House Republicans simply don’t want to work. If they did, they’d be in D.C. working to end the government shutdown.”
Later that morning at 03:58 UTC, Levin commented on the length of the current government shutdown: “I had hoped we wouldn’t get here. This is officially the longest government shutdown in U.S. history. This isn’t a record worth celebrating and it was completely avoidable had Congressional Republicans been willing to negotiate a solution to prevent health care premiums from”
Levin’s remarks come as Congress faces criticism for its inability to reach agreements addressing both federal funding and rising health insurance costs during the open enrollment period.
Born in Inglewood in 1978 and currently residing in San Juan Capistrano, Levin holds degrees from Stanford University (BA) and Duke University (JD). He succeeded Darrell Issa as representative for California’s 49th district beginning in 2019.
