Rep. Mike Levin, U.S. Congressman representing California’s 49th district since 2019, has raised concerns about the ethical implications of prediction markets and commented on recent events related to a conflict involving Iran.
On March 11, 2026, Levin criticized certain activities on prediction markets by posting: “Betting on whether a war will start. Betting on whether someone will be assassinated. Betting on whether a city gets hit with a nuclear weapon. This is what has been allowed to flourish on prediction markets. It’s deeply immoral, it’s ripe for corruption, and it needs to be” (March 11, 2026).
Later that day, he addressed statements regarding the end of wars: “No, you actually can’t say both. A war is either over or it isn’t. It doesn’t take a genius to figure that one out.” (March 11, 2026).
In another post the same evening, Levin referenced casualties from an incident in Minab, Iran: “On the first day of this war, at least 168 people, most of them young girls, were killed at an elementary school in Minab, Iran. Despite Trump’s claims to the contrary, the evidence is mounting that our own government was responsible. In response, Trump has been contradicting” (March 11, 2026).
Levin has served as a member of Congress since replacing Darrell Issa in 2019 and represents California’s coastal 49th district. He was born in Inglewood in 1978 and resides in San Juan Capistrano. Levin holds degrees from Stanford University and Duke University.
