Rep. Mike Levin, currently serving California’s 49th district in the U.S. Congress since 2019, has expressed concerns and gratitude through a series of tweets on April 4, 2025. Levin, a Stanford and Duke University graduate, has used the social media platform to address pressing issues and engage with his constituents.

In a tweet posted on April 4, 2025, Levin criticized the actions of Trump and Musk, asserting that they are “sabotaging Social Security.” He elaborated that the reduction of staff has resulted in overwhelmed phone lines, forcing seniors to rely on an unstable website that frequently crashes. As a consequence, seniors are compelled to visit field offices, which are subsequently closing, leading to an implication that seniors might be left without benefits. “Trump and Musk are sabotaging Social Security. They’re cutting staff, so phone lines are overwhelmed, forcing seniors to go online. The website keeps crashing, forcing seniors to go to field offices. They’re closing field offices, forcing seniors to go… without benefits?”

Later that day, Levin expressed amusement and appreciation for an unspecified creation, sharing his thanks through the platform. He tweeted a photograph accompanied by laughing emojis, indicating his delight without further elaboration. “My thanks to whoever made this https://t.co/eIORY9rBQ2”

In another message posted on April 4, 2025, Rep. Levin voiced his opinion on the economic impact of tariffs. He described them as another form of taxation that disproportionately affects working individuals. Levin noted that those who allocate a more significant portion of their income to basic necessities experience the brunt of these consumption taxes. “Tariffs are taxes—plain and simple. And like most consumption taxes, they hit working people hardest. If you spend more of your income on basics like food, gas, and clothes, you’ll be hit the hardest.”
