Rep. Mike Levin, who represents California’s 49th district in the U.S. Congress, used his social media platform to address the ongoing government shutdown and reflect on his family heritage in a series of posts on October 14 and 15, 2025.
On October 14, Levin wrote, “Congress should be working— not waiting at home — to end the shutdown. Health insurance for millions of Americans is on the line. I’m back in D.C. ready for bipartisan negotiations.”
Later, on October 15, Levin shared a personal message during Hispanic Heritage Month, stating, “My mother’s parents, Rosendo Bringas and Amalia Castaños, immigrated to the United States from Mexico in search of a better life for their family. I’m inspired by their journey and honor them this Hispanic Heritage Month.”
That same day, Levin addressed the status of the government shutdown, writing, “It’s day 15 of the Republican shutdown and I’m standing with those working to protect the health care of millions of Americans. While we’re in DC trying to do our jobs, House Republicans are nowhere to be found.”
Levin has served as the representative for California’s 49th District since 2019, succeeding Darrell Issa. He was born in Inglewood, California in 1978 and currently resides in San Juan Capistrano. Levin holds a BA from Stanford University and a JD from Duke University.
