Rep. Mike Levin, who represents California’s 49th district in the U.S. Congress, has recently posted a series of statements on his official Twitter account addressing issues ranging from federal spending abroad to domestic law enforcement incidents and climate change.
On January 7, 2026, Levin announced forthcoming legislation related to American financial involvement in Venezuela’s oil sector. In his post, he stated: “I will be introducing House legislation to prevent American taxpayer dollars from being used to rebuild Venezuela’s oil infrastructure. Your money should never be used to help big oil companies turn a profit on the administration’s operation in Venezuela.” The tweet referenced independent analysts but did not provide further detail within the message.
Later that day, Levin commented on an incident involving Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents in Minneapolis. On January 7, 2026, he wrote: “I’ve watched the video of today’s ICE shooting in Minneapolis. Independent footage and statements from local officials indicate the woman was not threatening agents, was attempting to drive away, and no officer was run over, directly contradicting President Trump’s claim of”. The post alludes to conflicting accounts between local sources and then-President Trump regarding the events surrounding the shooting.
In a separate post later that evening, Levin reflected on the anniversary of deadly wildfires in Los Angeles. He tweeted: “One year ago, wildfires ripped through Los Angeles, claiming 31 lives and upending thousands more.
California is no stranger to wildfires, but the flames we face today are getting bigger, hotter, and more dangerous than ever. This is not normal.
Climate change is happening”.
