Rep. Mike Levin, a member of the U.S. Congress representing California’s 49th district since 2019, recently addressed issues ranging from Venezuela’s oil industry to healthcare premiums and American foreign policy in a series of posts on his social media account.
On January 9, 2026, Levin commented on former President Donald Trump’s statements regarding the reconstruction of Venezuela’s oil sector. In his post, he stated: “Trump claims oil companies, not taxpayers, will spend $100B rebuilding Venezuela’s oil industry. Then it shouldn’t be controversial to pass my bill banning a single dollar of U.S. taxpayer money from being used to rebuild Venezuela’s oil infrastructure.”
Later that day, Levin turned his attention to healthcare costs for aging Americans. He wrote: “Turning 65 shouldn’t trigger a spike in health care premiums.
My bill will close a loophole in the ACA and prevent premiums from skyrocketing when one family member ages into Medicare and the other remains on an ACA plan.
This is a common-sense fix in the fight to lower health” (January 9, 2026).
The following day, Levin addressed American foreign policy and leadership style: “Threatening allies and talking loosely about military action is not strength. It’s recklessness. For generations, American power has rested on discipline, alliances, and respect for international law, not on insults or impulse. When a president muses about “taking” Greenland,” (January 10, 2026).
Levin has represented California’s coastal district since succeeding Darrell Issa in Congress in 2019. Born in Inglewood in 1978 and currently residing in San Juan Capistrano, he holds degrees from Stanford University (BA) and Duke University (JD). His recent legislative efforts reflect ongoing debates over U.S. foreign spending priorities and domestic healthcare reforms.
