Rep. Mike Levin, U.S. Congressman representing California’s 49th district since 2019, addressed recent developments regarding government programs and ongoing political disputes in a series of posts on his social media account between November 5 and November 6, 2025.
On November 5, Levin disputed claims about the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), stating: “First of all, not true. There were more people on SNAP in 2017 than there were between 2021 and 2024. Second, the courts ordered the President to fully deliver SNAP benefits. This is yet another distraction.” (November 5, 2025).
Later that day, he commented on health insurance premiums for Covered California recipients: “In Solana Beach today sounding the alarm about the huge premium increases Covered California recipients will see next year. The Affordable Care Act tax credits make premiums affordable and are the difference between many people choosing between health care, rent, and groceries.” (November 5, 2025).
On November 6, Levin referenced the ongoing government shutdown: “It’s day 36 of the government shutdown. House Rs are still far away from D.C. and refuse to join Democrats in a room to make a deal. Speaker Johnson cannot simply point his fingers at the Senate when he refuses to do as much as open the House Chamber.” (November 6, 2025).
Levin was born in Inglewood, California in 1978 and currently resides in San Juan Capistrano. He graduated from Stanford University with a BA in 2001 and earned a JD from Duke University in 2005.
