Rep. Mike Levin, who represents California’s 49th district in the U.S. Congress, has recently addressed concerns over immigration case backlogs and delayed education funding through a series of posts on social media.
On July 18, 2025, Levin posted about the current immigration system backlog, stating, “If we’re ever going to get through the existing backlog of roughly 3.5 million immigration cases, we need more judges, not less. The Trump Administration’s baseless firing of 17 immigration judges in California and 9 other states is yet another flagrant attempt to undermine due”.
Later that same day, Levin commented on delays in federal education funding: “I demanded answers from the Department of Education (ED) and the Office of Management and Budget (OMB). I joined several letters with my colleagues across the country and specifically in California urging them to release this funding immediately. A handful of Senate Republicans”. In a related post at the same time, he added a personal perspective: “As the parent of two kids in our local public schools, I don’t just see this as a congressman — I feel it as a dad. Districts built their budgets in good faith. Congress approved the money. But now, just weeks before school starts, that funding is being held hostage.
That’s not”.
Levin has represented California’s 49th District since 2019 after succeeding Darrell Issa. He was born in Inglewood, California in 1978 and currently resides in San Juan Capistrano. Levin graduated from Stanford University with a BA in 2001 and earned his JD from Duke University in 2005.
