Rep. Mike Levin, a U.S. Congressman representing California’s 49th district since 2019, addressed several federal policy issues in a series of tweets posted on January 13, 2026.
In one post from the morning of January 13, Levin discussed congressional oversight at Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facilities. He stated, “Congress must be able to exercise its oversight authority at ICE facilities, just like any other federal agency. A federal court has already ruled that ICE can’t require advance notice before Members of Congress inspect detention facilities. Instead of complying with the law,” (January 13, 2026).
Later that day, Levin commented on environmental regulation practices by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). He wrote, “For decades, the EPA has done one basic thing when setting clean air rules: weigh the costs to industry against the public health benefits to real people, including fewer asthma attacks, fewer hospital visits, and fewer Americans dying prematurely. Now, the Trump Administration” (January 13, 2026).
In a subsequent tweet posted in the afternoon, Levin highlighted efforts to improve flood protection for Oceanside residents. He said, “Oceanside residents deserve the strongest possible flood protection for their homes and businesses. That’s why I worked to secure $26 million to begin essential levee improvements and other safety work along the San Luis Rey River. This is a long-term investment in public safety” (January 13, 2026).
Levin has represented California’s coastal 49th district since succeeding Darrell Issa in Congress in 2019. Born in Inglewood in 1978 and currently residing in San Juan Capistrano, he holds degrees from Stanford University and Duke University.
