Congressman Raul Ruiz, M.D., representing California’s 25th district, recently addressed his constituents and the broader public through a series of tweets. His posts touched on themes of gratitude towards law enforcement and concerns about healthcare policy changes.
On May 16, 2025, Congressman Ruiz expressed appreciation for law enforcement officers in his district during National Police Week. He stated, “To every officer in my district, from city departments to county and federal agencies, thank you for putting your lives on the line to keep our communities safe.” He acknowledged their bravery and sacrifice across the nation.
The following day, May 17, 2025, Ruiz highlighted the human impact of Medicaid by sharing stories from his constituents. He emphasized that the fight to protect Medicaid is fundamentally about people rather than statistics. In his tweet, he noted, “Let’s not lose sight: the fight to protect Medicaid isn’t about numbers—it’s about people.” He shared insights from constituents Victoria and Stephen who depend on Medicaid for essential healthcare.
Later on May 17, Ruiz critiqued Republican proposals to cut $715 billion from Medicaid. He warned that such cuts would make accessing healthcare more difficult for everyone. His tweet read: “Republicans want to cut $715 billion from Medicaid. How? By making it harder for everyone to get their health care.” He cited Georgia as an example of these potential impacts.
Raul Ruiz has been serving in Congress since replacing Mary Bono in 2013. Born in Zacatecas City, Mexico in 1972 and now residing in Indio at age 50, he holds degrees from UCLA and Harvard University.
