Rep. Mike Levin, who has represented California’s 49th district in the U.S. Congress since 2019, raised concerns on April 16, 2026, regarding recent legal and political developments involving former President Donald Trump and his associates.
In a post published at 16:36 UTC, Levin referenced a custody dispute reportedly involving a longtime friend of Donald Trump and actions taken by immigration authorities: “ICYMI: A longtime friend of Trump’s asked ICE to detain the mother of his child during a custody dispute, and a senior official stepped in to make sure it happened. The mother was then detained and deported to make it easier for him to gain custody of his son. That is not how a”.
Later that day at 18:17 UTC, Levin addressed the pardoning of individuals connected with the January 6 Capitol riot: “This should be a bigger story. Another Jan. 6 rioter pardoned by Donald Trump is now pleading guilty in a separate case involving the sexual exploitation of minors. We’ve already seen this happen before, and it underscores the same point: when you grant clemency at this scale”.
At 19:33 UTC, Levin questioned decisions by current administration officials related to prosecutions stemming from the events surrounding the January 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol: “Apparently, it’s now in the best interest of the American people to drop cases against white nationalist leaders who attacked police in an effort to overturn a free and fair election?! What does it say about this Administration’s judgment that individuals involved in violent”.
Levin’s statements come as he continues his tenure representing California’s coastal region in Congress—a position he has held since replacing Darrell Issa in 2019—and as national discussions continue about presidential pardons and accountability following January 6.
Levin was born in Inglewood, California in 1978 and resides in San Juan Capistrano. He holds degrees from Stanford University (BA) and Duke University (JD).
