Rep. Mike Levin, who represents California’s 49th district in the U.S. Congress, has used his social media platform to criticize Republican positions on government handouts, energy prices, and the housing arrangements of Kristi Noem. Levin’s recent posts have drawn attention to what he describes as inconsistencies and failures in Republican policies.
On May 9, 2026, Levin posted a critique regarding Republican attitudes toward government support for the oil and gas industry: “Washington Republicans love to talk about how much they hate handouts. No free rides, pull yourself up by your bootstraps, government shouldn’t be picking winners and losers, it goes on and on.
But you know who they have absolutely no problem giving handouts to? The oil and gas”.
Later that same day, Levin questioned why Kristi Noem remains housed at taxpayer expense: “Can someone please explain to me why Kristi Noem is still living on the taxpayers’ dime in a Coast Guard house on a D.C. military base?
She was fired TWO MONTHS ago. She better start packing her bags.”
On May 10, 2026, Levin criticized current energy policy under the Trump administration: “REMINDER: Electric bills rose as high as 13% last year under Trump, and gas prices are exploding.
This Administration has done NOTHING to lower your energy prices. All they are doing is killing the cheap, clean energy that would actually lower your bills and getting us into”.
Levin has represented California’s 49th district since replacing Darrell Issa in 2019. He was born in Inglewood, California in 1978 and currently resides in San Juan Capistrano. Levin graduated from Stanford University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 2001 before earning a Juris Doctor from Duke University in 2005.
