Rep. Mike Levin, a member of the U.S. Congress representing California’s 49th district since 2019, recently shared his views on several pressing issues through social media posts. Levin, who succeeded Darrell Issa and holds degrees from Stanford University and Duke University, addressed concerns ranging from federal funding to due process in deportation cases.
On June 6, 2025, Rep. Levin criticized former President Donald Trump for allegedly attempting to “cancel federal funding for California” as a political maneuver. He stated that such actions are not only wrong but also illegal, emphasizing that “Congress holds the power of the purse.” According to Levin, using taxpayer dollars to penalize states for their political views is a violation of the Constitution. “Trump is trying to cancel federal funding for California and use it as a political weapon.”
Later that day, Levin commented on Republican efforts regarding Medicare benefits. He asserted that despite any terminology used by Republicans, their intention remains to reduce Medicare benefits which millions of Americans have earned over time. “Republicans can call it whatever they want, but it doesn’t change the fact they want to cut Medicare benefits.”
In another post on June 6, 2025, Levin addressed the case of Kilmar Abrego Garcia’s deportation without due process. He stressed that everyone is entitled to due process under the law and expressed concern about Garcia being sent back to El Salvador without it. Levin stated that if Garcia committed serious crimes, he should be held accountable while ensuring justice through proper legal channels. “Everyone in our country is entitled to due process under the law.”
