Rep. Mike Levin, a member of the U.S. Congress representing California’s 49th district since 2019, recently expressed his sentiments on several issues through a series of tweets. Born in Inglewood, California in 1978, Levin holds degrees from Stanford University and Duke University and resides in San Juan Capistrano.
On May 21, 2025, Rep. Levin conveyed his sorrow over the death of his colleague Rep. Gerry Connolly, describing him as “one of the most effective members of Congress.” Levin stated: “I’m heartbroken to learn of the passing of my good friend and colleague, Rep. Gerry Connolly. Gerry was one of the most effective members of Congress—tireless in his service to his community, our country, and the planet. I’m keeping his loved ones in my thoughts.”
Later that day, at 16:00 UTC, Levin criticized a Republican legislative proposal he referred to as the “Big Ugly Bill,” highlighting its potential impact on clean energy costs for working families. He tweeted: “I offered a simple amendment to the Republican Big Ugly Bill: don’t gut clean energy unless it’s verified that it won’t raise utility bills. But analysis shows it will by 7%. Working families shouldn’t pay more so polluters and the wealthy can cash in.”
In another tweet posted at 17:05 UTC on May 21st, Levin accused the Trump Administration of withholding funds for critical flood control projects in California as an act of political retribution. He asserted: “This is outrageous. The Trump Admin is putting Californians’ lives at risk. Congress approved funding for critical flood control projects—but the Admin refused to deliver the money. I demanded answers, but the truth is clear: this is political retribution, plain and simple.”
Mike Levin has been serving California’s 49th District since succeeding Darrell Issa in 2019.
