The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) has named both the UC San Diego Triton men’s and women’s track and field teams as All-Academic Teams for the 2025 collegiate season. Four student-athletes from UC San Diego—Tamara Aimufia, Miles Bennett, Amari Jenkins, and Sylvana Northrop—were also recognized as All-Academic Athletes.

To earn the designation of All-Academic Team, a program must maintain a combined cumulative GPA of at least 3.0. The Triton women’s team reported a GPA of 3.47, while the men’s team recorded a GPA of 3.40.

All-Academic Athlete recognition is awarded to scholar-athletes who have a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or higher, have completed one full year at their institution, and qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships.

Tamara Aimufia qualified for the NCAA Championships in the long jump with a distance of 6.14 meters. She is a sophomore from Rancho Cucamonga, California, studying cognitive science.

Miles Bennett reached the NCAA Championships in the high jump with a height of 2.11 meters. He recently graduated from UC San Diego with a degree in structural engineering and is originally from Castro Valley, California.

Amari Jenkins competed in the NCAA Championships in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 58.21 seconds. Jenkins is pursuing graduate studies in public health and hails from Moreno Valley, California.

Sylvana Northrop ran in the NCAA Championships’ 5,000-meter event with a time of 16:02.47 seconds. Northrop is a senior studying cognitive science from Cupertino, California.

“After two decades as one of the most successful programs in NCAA Division II, the UC San Diego intercollegiate athletics program began a new era in 2020 as a member of The Big West in NCAA Division I,” according to UC San Diego Athletics officials. “The 24-sport Tritons earned 30 team and nearly 150 individual national championships during its time in Divisions II and III and helped guide 1,400 scholar-athletes to All-America honors.” Officials also noted that “a total of 83 Tritons have earned Academic All-America honors, while 39 have earned prestigious NCAA Post Graduate Scholarships.” They added that “UC San Diego scholar-athletes exemplify the academic ideals of one of the world’s preeminent institutions, graduating at an average rate of 93 percent, one of the highest rates among institutions at all divisions.”
