FOIA Request to Miracosta College Regarding Chinese National Students on June 3, 2025.
As part of our ongoing commitment to transparency and accountability in public institutions, North Coast California News has submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to Miracosta College. This request seeks detailed information concerning the presence and support of Chinese National students at the institution.
The request specifically asks for documents or lists detailing all current students who are Chinese Nationals, along with their respective departments of study. If privacy concerns arise, we have requested that the total number of such students be provided, broken down by department.
Additionally, we are seeking information on scholarships awarded to these students. This includes the amount of each scholarship received by Chinese National students and the sources from which these scholarships originate. Furthermore, we have asked for a list of recipients affiliated with grants from the Chinese Scholarship Council.
In an effort to understand how the university safeguards its intellectual property and confidential information, we have also requested any policies or procedures related to monitoring students, including those who are Chinese Nationals.
This request is made on behalf of both North Coast California News and The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy. As members of the media dedicated to informing the public and holding institutions accountable, access to these records is crucial for our reporting responsibilities. We believe this qualifies us for a fee waiver as media professionals.
Our organization remains committed to uncovering and reporting stories that matter to our community. We will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available regarding this FOIA request.
