Congressman Raul Ruiz, M.D., currently representing California’s 25th district in the U.S. Congress, has taken to social media to express his views on several pressing legislative issues. Serving since 2013, Ruiz replaced former member Mary Bono and continues to be an active voice in congressional debates.
On July 2, 2025, Ruiz shared his perspective on the current state of affairs within the House of Representatives. In a tweet, he stated: “Here’s an update of where we’re at House Republicans don’t have the votes. Don’t let up the pressure. Stay loud and keep engaging.” This statement suggests ongoing contention and mobilization efforts regarding a particular legislative issue.
Later that day, Ruiz addressed a significant healthcare concern facing rural communities. He tweeted in Spanish: “Nuestro país se encuentra en una crisis de cierre de hospitales rurales, y el ‘Big Ugly Bill’ empeorará la situación. Los hospitales cerrarán. Morirá gente. Este proyecto de ley es peligroso. Voy a votar no.” This message highlights his opposition to proposed legislation he believes will exacerbate hospital closures and endanger lives.
Continuing with healthcare-related matters, on July 3, 2025, Ruiz commented on potential Medicaid cuts. He warned: “Cutting Medicaid is straight up dangerous. People will die. We need to invest in health care, not gut it.” Emphasizing action from constituents, he urged continued advocacy by saying: “The fight isn’t over. Keep showing up. Call your representatives.”
Raul Ruiz was born in Zacatecas City, Mexico in 1972 and currently resides in Indio at age 50. An alumnus of UCLA and Harvard University, he holds degrees from both institutions.
