Congressman Raul Ruiz, M.D., who represents California’s 25th district in the U.S. Congress, has used his social media platform to voice concerns about recent government actions affecting immigrants and healthcare coverage.
On January 23, 2026, Ruiz posted a critique of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency (ICE), stating: “The current violent behavior of ICE is out of control. Their mass deportations of non-criminal immigrants and even citizens are tearing families apart, terrorizing our communities, hurting our economy, and raising costs. People, including citizens, are living in a constant state”.
Later that day, Ruiz commented on healthcare policy changes attributed to Republican lawmakers. He wrote: “When 15 million Americans lose their healthcare because of irresponsible Republican cuts to Medicaid in the Big Ugly Law, who will have to pay a higher cost?
In their own words, healthcare insurance companies CEOs will raise their premiums to cover the costs of uncompensated https://t.co/cdN59F5bd7“.
Continuing his focus on health policy on January 24, 2026, Ruiz added: “Healthcare insurance CEOs agree: cuts to Medicaid in the Big Ugly Bill will raise costs for everyone.
Because of the Republican health care crisis, millions will go uninsured, emergency hospital visits will increase, and healthcare premiums will skyrocket to cover the costs. https://t.co/uBr4vR79ZH“.
Ruiz has served as a U.S. Representative since 2013 after replacing Mary Bono and currently resides in Indio. Born in Zacatecas City, Mexico in 1972 and now aged 50 years old, he holds degrees from both UCLA and Harvard University.
