Congressman Raul Ruiz, M.D., currently representing California’s 25th district in the U.S. Congress, posted a series of statements on his social media accounts addressing significant national issues and recent policy decisions.
On January 6, 2026, Ruiz reflected on the fifth anniversary of the attack on the U.S. Capitol. He stated, “Five years ago, January 6, 2021, Members of Congress were attacked & the United States Capitol was breached in an attempt to illegally block the transfer of power & the will of the American people through free and fair elections. I witnessed firsthand the danger of that moment” (posted January 6, 2026).
Later that day, Ruiz addressed public health concerns regarding immunization policy changes by federal authorities. He urged followers to “Read my statement condemning the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s decision to change the childhood vaccine schedule.” (posted January 6, 2026).
Continuing his criticism on January 7, Ruiz specifically called out leadership at both governmental and agency levels: “Secretary Kennedy and the CDC’s decision to roll back recommended vaccines – without regard to the science – is irresponsible and dangerous. As an emergency medicine physician, I know what happens when preventable diseases spread. This decision puts Americans at unnecessary risk” (posted January 7, 2026).
Ruiz has represented California’s 25th District since replacing Mary Bono in Congress in 2013. Born in Zacatecas City, Mexico in 1972 and now residing in Indio at age 50, he holds degrees from UCLA and Harvard University.
