Congressman Raul Ruiz, M.D., representing California’s 25th district since 2013, shared his insights on recent legislative developments through a series of tweets. The congressman offered updates on the status of a contentious bill being debated in the U.S. Capitol.
In a tweet posted on July 3, 2025, at 04:52:24 UTC, Congressman Ruiz provided “A quick midnight update from the U.S. Capitol.” He stated that House Republicans lacked sufficient votes to advance their bill. Ruiz remarked, ” Why? Because this bill sucks and they know it.” He further mentioned that some Republican members confided in him about their reasons for holding out.
Later that morning, at 13:19:33 UTC, Ruiz shared another update indicating a shift in the situation. According to his tweet, “Republican hold outs caved and flipped their vote (not surprised ).” He noted that the Rule vote passed and deliberations had moved to the final vote for what he termed as the “Big Ugly Bill.” Ruiz emphasized the need for support from four Republicans who have previously criticized Medicaid cuts or opposed an additional $5 trillion in spending.
In a subsequent tweet posted shortly after at 13:25:22 UTC, Congressman Ruiz expressed his support with a simple statement “Truth be told – Go Hakeem!”
