Congressman Raul Ruiz, M.D., representing California’s 25th district, recently used his social media platform to highlight several health and environmental initiatives for his community.
On January 21, 2026, Ruiz announced new federal funding for local projects in the Coachella Valley. In his post he stated: “Drum roll please… I’m excited to announce $6 million in community project funding for the Coachella Valley! This investment will help prevent flooding, reduce pollution along the receding shoreline of the Salton Sea, and create new walkable pathways that protect our”.
The following day, on January 22, Ruiz addressed public health concerns related to industrial pollution near sensitive sites. He wrote: “Safeguarding our local communities’ health is essential. That’s why I’m fighting to keep polluting power plants at least five miles away from schools, hospitals, and long term care facilities to protect high risk children, the chronically ill, and elderly. Your health is my”.
Later on January 22, Ruiz expressed opposition to legislation that he believes would compromise public health in favor of economic growth or national security arguments. He posted: “We do not have to sacrifice the public’s health and safety for economic growth under the guise of national security. We can grow our economy and protect people’s health. That’s why I oppose legislation that would increase pollution, harm Americans’ health, and raise health care”.
Ruiz has served as a member of Congress since 2013 after replacing Mary Bono. He was born in Zacatecas City, Mexico in 1972 and currently resides in Indio at age 50. Ruiz holds degrees from UCLA and Harvard University.
