Congressman Raul Ruiz, M.D., who represents California’s 25th district in the U.S. Congress, has used his social media platform to address concerns regarding a potential government shutdown and its impact on Americans. In a series of posts from October 1 and 2, 2025, Ruiz discussed ongoing efforts to keep the government open and highlighted support for workers affected by the uncertainty.
Later that day, Ruiz shared details of a meeting with labor representatives: “Today I met with David, the American Federation of Government Employees labor leader for TSA agents, to ensure working people affected by the shutdown can access the resources they need to cover basic expenses. They are already struggling with rising costs, and a delayed paycheck”.
In another post dated October 2, Ruiz took time to acknowledge medical professionals: “I’m taking a few moments during this busy fight to open the government, protect health care, and to recognize the physicians who care for their patients and defend Medicaid. That’s why today we honor #NationalLatinoandLatinaPhysicianDay.”
Ruiz has represented California’s 25th district since 2013 after succeeding Mary Bono. He was born in Zacatecas City, Mexico in 1972 and currently resides in Indio at age 50. He earned degrees from both UCLA (BS) in 1994 and Harvard University.
