Congressman Raul Ruiz, M.D., representing California’s 25th district in the U.S. Congress since 2013, has recently posted a series of statements on social media addressing both a controversial incident involving Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and ongoing legislative efforts related to health care.
On January 8, 2026, Ruiz expressed his reaction to an incident in South Minneapolis, stating: “I am outraged by the killing of a U.S. citizen and legal observer by a masked ICE agent in South Minneapolis. Video evidence makes clear this use of force was unjustified. Despite this, Kristi Noem is once again lying by falsely labeling the incident as terrorism, an unfounded”. The post directly addresses both the actions of ICE and comments made by Kristi Noem regarding the event.
Later that day, Ruiz shifted focus to health care policy debates in Congress. On January 8, he wrote: “We forced a vote to extend the Affordable Care Act tax credits. Senate Republicans should do the right thing and vote to protect accessible health care.” The following day, January 9, he reiterated his stance on health care access: “I’m fighting for your access to affordable health care. We must extend the Affordable Care Act tax credits and avoid premium hikes. Access to quality health care shouldn’t have to be a privilege.
My mission is simple: make sure lifesaving care is there for the Americans who need”.
Ruiz’s recent posts come amid ongoing debates over federal health policy and concerns about law enforcement practices. He has served as a member of Congress since replacing Mary Bono in 2013 and represents constituents from California’s 25th district. Born in Zacatecas City, Mexico in 1972 and currently residing in Indio, Ruiz holds degrees from UCLA and Harvard University.
