Congressman Raul Ruiz, M.D., representing California’s 25th district, posted a series of updates on March 19, 2026, addressing local agriculture, a recent train derailment, and the ongoing federal government shutdown.
In recognition of National Agriculture Week, Ruiz wrote: “During #NationalAgWeek, we recognize the farmers and farmworkers who power the economy of the Coachella and Imperial Valleys and help feed families across our nation. Thank you for the hard work and dedication that keeps American agriculture strong. #ThankAFarmer” (March 19, 2026).
Later in the day, Ruiz updated constituents about a transportation incident in North Shore: “We are working with Union Pacific to bring you the latest updates on the cause and aftermath of the car derailment in North Shore. Within an hour, the train cars will be completely cleaned. We will continue to keep you updated and get you the answers you’re looking for.” (March 19, 2026).
Addressing national issues, Ruiz commented on missed paychecks for federal workers during a government shutdown: “TSA agents and DHS workers just missed their first full paycheck. Republicans can end this shutdown today, but they’re blocking funding unless ICE gets $28B more with no accountability. Hardworking Americans are paying the price.” (March 19, 2026).
Ruiz has represented California’s 25th District since 2013 after succeeding Mary Bono. Born in Zacatecas City, Mexico in 1972 and currently residing in Indio at age 50, he holds degrees from UCLA and Harvard University.
