Rep. Mike Levin, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing California’s 49th district, shared his concerns on Twitter regarding recent policy decisions and their implications. He has been a member of Congress since 2019 after replacing Darrell Issa.
On May 21, 2025, Levin criticized the Trump Administration’s reductions to USDA programs, which he claims have resulted in a loss of “1.4 million meals” for food banks and families. He also highlighted that “House Republicans’ cuts to SNAP will cause children and families to go hungry.”
Later that day, Levin expressed his disapproval over the lack of funding for flood control projects in certain states by the Trump Administration. According to him, “The Army Corps couldn’t explain why the Trump Admin refuses to fund lifesaving flood control projects in blue states,” suggesting political motives behind these decisions.
On May 22, 2025, Levin appeared on BBC World News America where he discussed what he referred to as the “Republican Big Ugly Bill.” He claimed it would adversely affect healthcare and hunger issues while increasing national debt significantly. In his words, “the Republican Big Ugly Bill is going to take healthcare from 14M Americans,” put millions at risk of hunger and add “$3.8T to the debt.”
