Carlsbad property owners paid property taxes equal to 0.5% of their homes’ values in the first quarter of 2026, BlockShopper.com reports—putting the city’s rate at less than 0.6 times the national average.

Data from 33 home sales in Carlsbad during the quarter show the median sales price reached $1,565,000. The city’s median property tax bill for the year was $8,396, which amounts to 0.5% of the taxed homes’ median values.

The national average effective property tax rate was 0.888% in 2024.

Among San Diego County municipalities, Imperial Beach, Julian, and Hidden Meadows reported the highest effective property tax rates.
