On March 21st, Assemblywoman Laurie Davies paid tribute to 22 women from San Diego County, acknowledging their nomination for the 2025 Woman of the Year program at an event in Oceanside, California. The recognition celebrated the significant contributions these women have made in California’s 74th Assembly District.

During the event, Assemblywoman Davies expressed her gratitude, stating, “To all the women who were nominated, I want to extend my deepest gratitude. Your work and contributions do not go unnoticed. The passion with which you serve our communities ignites hope and drives progress, making our world a better place, day by day. May today be a reflection of the appreciation and admiration that your communities hold for you.”

The nominees included notable community leaders such as Martha Alvarado, an educator and Marine Corps veteran; Bess Bronson, an advocate involved with local organizations; Peggy Brown, an active community volunteer; and many more who have made substantial impacts in various sectors.

The Woman of the Year event, initiated in 1987 by Assemblywomen Bev Hansen and Sally Tanner, seeks to recognize the accomplishments of outstanding women during Women’s History Month. It invites one woman from each Senate and Assembly district for this honor, with the event organized by the California Women’s Caucus. The reception took place at Pannikin Coffee in Oceanside and was not funded by taxpayers.

Assemblywoman Laurie Davies serves the 74th Assembly District, encompassing parts of southern Orange County and northern San Diego County.
